How Do You Choose Your Black & White Outfit?

Fashion is an art and style portrays your personality, character and attitude but it takes more than just appreciation to select an outfit meant for you. Often in life, you'll feel that there are many beautiful apparels out there but not every pieces suit your build and preference. We would say it could be rather difficult to find one that flaunts your figure. However, keep in mind that you are wearing the outfits and not vice versa, as such you should not change your style to match the fashion because fashion fades, only style remains the same - Coco Chanel.

Below are the five points to consider when choosing a black & white outfit:

1.   Consider your own sense of aesthetic balance. Do you prefer one main colour with only an accent of the contrasting colour? Or are equal parts black and white attractive to you? Prints or solids?
2.   Choose the image of balance that makes you feel most comfortable. The best accessory to any outfit is a healthy measure of self-confidence.
3.   When wearing equal parts black and white, wear black on your bottom half, if possible. Women tend to hold weight on their hips and below, so the black will appear slimming. White on the top half will emphasize the line at the waist and narrow it even further.
4.   If accents are your style, wear an all black dress, suit or skirt and top ensemble with white accessories, like vintage bangles or beaded necklaces. Gleaming white pearls are always sophisticated as well.
5.   Prefer prints? Black and white prints are eye-catching and often distract the eye from any negative points concerning your physique. A small and dainty white pattern on black is feminine and subtle, while pop art fabrics call mod styles to mind. White backgrounds are a challenge as that is a lot of space to keep from accidental spills and spots.

Floral Dress Tip
Floral print dresses that have a band around your waist in a dark colour will make your waist look smaller. If you're bringing a sweater, try and have it match the band colour. If you want to emphasize your waist in a loose-flowing outfit, tie in a belt that matches the colour of one of the flowers in your floral print.
Matching Floral Dresses with Boots
1.   Pick round-toed or square-toed boots for the pastoral aura of a floral dress. A pointed toe would look too edgy. Cowboy boots can complement a floral dress even if you don't do country dancing but they must be a lighter pair to match the dainty floral pattern.
2.   Select mid-calf boots, which look the most natural with floral patterns, but make sure the hemline is above the boots or else there would be an illusion of thicker legs. Forget about boots if the dress is longer than mid-calf. Don't wear ankle boots because, with a floral dress, they would create a granny-like look.
3.   Stay away from suede boots or fur-trimmed boots. They would look too winter-like to accompany a floral print.
4.   Choose boots in the same hue as one of the floral pattern's colours; or go for an earth tone like brown, which will be in harmony with all flower colours.

How to Style Floral Dresses to Look Retro
  1. Select a lightweight cotton floral dress with a bold pattern. Retro floral dresses often feature large, bold patterns. Floral retro dresses are also typically characterized by a tight, moderately revealing bodice, in halter, short-sleeve, or three-quarter length form. The skirt should be full or flare into a swing skirt, resting just below the knee.
  2. Add a belt. Wrap a sash belt, skinny belt or scarf around your midriff, right at, or slightly above, your belly button. Depending on your floral color scheme, pair a cherry-red skinny patent leather belt or a sash tied in back.
  3. Pair your dress with a tiny, vintage, unbuttoned cardigan.
  4. Utilize large faux flowers. Pin a large flower to the top corner of your bodice or place a faux flower in your hair. If it won't stay, glue it to a headband.
  5. Top off your floral dress with retro accessories. Pair your retro-style dress with a pair of vintage pumps. Pin a small brooch or pin to your cardigan. By today's standards, much of the retro jewellery was considered gaudy. Made of silver and gold, the jewellery of the '40s and '50s featured coloured rhinestones and faux pearls. Include vintage, costume jewellery such as a string of pearls. Trade in your handbag for a small clutch or tiny, beaded, metallic, or mesh evening bag.
